'The contemporary left is working on it: We’ve built popular universities at encampments, drag shows, solidarity economy projects, community gardens, protest kitchens, and the massive web of mutual aid networks that emerged during the early COVID-19 pandemic. But as the feeble support offered by the state for our social welfare erodes under fascism and climate collapse, we need to scale this more than we can imagine. In essence, we must consider how to recreate the concept of doykeit: creating the communities necessary to survive, win, and enjoy each other and our lives in the here and now.' Agree we should be upping the anti, not allowing ourselves to be eradicated!

Very well written. Thanks for learning and sharing! A large share of those Yiddish in America were thrilled by, and politically thrived, within the USA’s old decentralized, federated, and pluralized system which provided numerous diversified access points to decision making and allowed for substantial legal/regulatory variability and policy variability, which was all necessary to build those “libraries, schools, housing and worker coops, newspapers, mutual aid associations”

While the system was flawed and had its contradictions and cruelly excluded some, it was those ways also, and was getting better and more inclusive over time. It then 180’d and deeply centralized, standardized, and became decision-making-exclusionary. This did not work as advertised, but then a planetary governance layer was created (capital “G” Globalization) which enabled a cruel near planet spanning global economic central planning regime that let for intensive economic extraction from around the world to mask most of the domestic failures

We shouldnt have done that, and it wasnt needed, the old system showed that, California was meant to have the development economics the Congo has in recent decades and those who argued for that asserted the same rhetoric and declared it can only be that way, they were proven wrong.

Globalization may be going out the door, if so there is emergency need to restore de-centralization, variability, and broad based access to policy decision making and capital allocation as if not the current top powerful special interests groups will have to squeeze most all the general population real hard in order to maintain what they got if the resources from the planetary extraction system are lost
