Very informative interview. I've done lots of research on gender policies in agriculture and water governance in developing countries, and on social inclusion more recently and one thing I always the cost of doing things in a gender equal, socially inclusive, participatory manner. Even when I'd be tasked with designing such policies and would even manage to run a participatory design process, then in the end I was told there is no money to implement the policies I helped design. So many of them are still gathering dust on some shelve somewhere.
Food waste--particularly in the West--is a tragedy. Moreover, it's alarming how certain food policies fail to account for gender differences. This one-two punch not only neglects biological differences as it pertains to health, but, as you both discuss, it can reinforce traditional roles altogether.
Gender inequalities must be incorporated as it pertains to policymaking. Doing so is critical if we have any hope of becoming more progressive as a population.
