Loved this and all the reference. I am a Californian living in Italy and it's so easy to have rose tinted glasses and nostalgia for my homeland, but great to be reminded of some of the darker parts of our food culture.
Thanks so much for reading and for sharing that perspective. We're two Canadians (living in Berlin and Barcelona) over here at FFJ and it was interesting to reflect on these dynamics in California given so many of them have taken root in Canadian slow food discourse as well.
I’ve grown up in the Bay Area food scene, and I have to thank you for articulating all of these swirly thoughts I’ve been having for the past few years. The concepts and people I have been taught to venerate, the growing dis-ease with our own complicity... I love it when I walk away from an article like this because it opens up so many more questions I now need to start thinking about. Thank you.

Loved the piece! Wish the -isms were not left dangling at the end
