Looking for the perfect holiday gift?
Our FFJ FOR A FRIEND holiday package is back — with a twist
Last year, it was tickets to our launch event and secret holiday recipes. This year, as a fully-fledged publication, we’re delighted to repackage FFJ for a Friend into a festive bundling of:
An annual paid subscription to FFJ, which provides exclusive access to:
Our monthly behind-the-scenes newsletter
Audio versions of most articles and all paywalled content
Invitations to launch events
Our secret holiday recipes, which we will send out by email to paid subscribers in December!
A hand-printed FFJ tote bag — Zoë has designed and printed these herself at STATTLAB in Berlin
A hand-written holiday card from the FFJ editors — includes thanks for supporting independent feminist media on one side and one of the in-house illustrations we’ve featured this year on the other
This all comes for the grand price of $33.90 USD — 25% off the usual cost of a year subscription to FFJ.
All you have to do is choose between sexy and sweet.
OUR SWEET PACKAGE
The perfect gift for any foodie, feminist, or independent zine aficionado on your list.
Tote
Our FFJ lemon classic; Zoë & Isabela have been rocking these around town(s) for a year and have grown accustomed to the feeling of disappointment when no one asks what the magazine is about. We must just already be that famous. Or maybe our name gives it all away? Regardless, we still think it’s a very nice bag. (And we promise that these bags and cards will look infinitely better in real life than in the mockups below.)
Card
Don’t want to send your aunt an image of fingers suggestively probing a lemon (see SEXY package below)? That makes sense, and we’ve got you covered. Choose a more G-rated option like our Magicienne with Cheese or Letter from the Editors.
OUR SEXY PACKAGE
She’s bad. If you send it to your crush we guarantee they’ll fall in love with you. Stocks for this one are extremely limited, so get in quick.
Tote
With our original Pitch Us Like We’re This Lemon image, straight from our SEX issue. Subtle, she is not. But you might get a lot more attention at the farmer’s market with this than the original. Please do keep us posted.
Card
Our favourite An Oyster’s Burden is ready to bring gasps of pleasure to anyone who opens the envelope (so please warn beneficiaries not to let prudish family members open the envelope). If you’re not into the vulvic glean of the bivalve we also have My Milkshake (Brings All the Boys to the Yard, and They’re Like, I’m Just Not Really Into Feminist Stuff but Thanks Anyway) featuring a juicy, juicy cherry.
No friends? No worries! We’re perfectly willing to shower you with gifts too. If you’re not yet a paid subscriber but would like to become one, now is the time. If you’re already a paid subscriber but want it for yourself, we can find a way to make that work too. And if you’d like to mix-and-match parts of the SEXY and SWEET package, that’s totally OK. Just let us know by email (see ‘How does it work?’) at hello@feministfoodjournal.com.
How does it work?
To buy for yourself
Go to the homepage of Feminist Food Journal on Substack
On the top right, click either “Subscribe” or “Upgrade to paid”
Select an annual subscription for $33.90 a year and put in your payment info
Send us an email at hello@feministfoodjournal.com with your package preferences and mailing address.
To buy for someone else
Go to the homepage of Feminist Food Journal on Substack
On the top right, click the green button that reads either “Subscribe”, “Upgrade to paid”, or “Gift a subscription” (The option you see will look different depending on what your current status is as a subscriber)
Find your way to “Give a gift” - you might need to click “Other subscription options” if you yourself are not yet a paid subscriber
Once in the gift area, choose the “$33.90 for 1 year” option, put in your recipient’s email address, write them a love note, and decide if you’d like to send it to them now or later (there’s an option to schedule its arrival on a specific date/time)
Send us an email at hello@feministfoodjournal.com with your package preferences and the mailing address of your recipient — and let us know the date you selected for subscription delivery, so we can try to time sending as best as possible.
A note on timing
It’s best to order before December 10th if you’d like the package to arrive before Christmas (we will be mailing them from Berlin). If ordering after December 10th, we’ll do our best to get it there on time, and we can also send them a digital version of your chosen card by email while they’re waiting for the real deal.
Finally, we can’t guarantee the exact timing of arrival for the packages vis-a-vis your chosen timing for the digital subscription. In case the physical package arrives earlier than the subscription notification, we’ve written on the card that the package is part of an FFJ holiday gift, and they should expect to receive their digital subscription soon if they haven’t yet already.
Is it a perfect system? No! Will it bring marvel and mazels to everyone whose inbox and mailbox it graces? Yes! We’re so grateful for your support in working towards a feminist food future and can’t wait to show your friends what we’re all about.
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, clarifications, or even special gift requests. We’ll happily work with you to make any modifications.
Why support us?
2023 will be Feminist Food Journal’s second year of business. We’re still running FFJ as volunteers, and have so many ideas (regular newsletters, events, collabs), dreams (10,000 subscribers), and nightmares (no more money). We rely on our paid subscribers to make the first two happen while evading the third scenario. Last year’s FFJ for a Friend fundraiser was truly instrumental in getting our magazine off the ground, and on top of its success, we had a genuinely wonderful time mailing bits and bobs around the world, dedicating handwritten cards to strangers, and meeting many of them at our launch event.
By buying this year’s FFJ for a Friend, you’ll not only be offering a unique and impactful gift to someone in your life but also allowing us to continue to grow, focusing on paying our writers more and hopefully being able to work on other things a little bit less. More FFJ means more critical perspectives on society, culture, and politics through the lens of food — meaning more minds ready to tackle the patriarchal forces that want to keep us down. And that’s as good a gift as any!
Gratefully,
Isabela & Zoe
