Thank you so much for this, Anna. Reading someone else describe this experience so perfectly is so bittersweet. Jolting back to remembering it's a white world, when you're not, is a strange feeling - combined with trying to figure out how you're perceived is just awful. Almost worse when you're somewhat racially ambiguous because it's ever changing depending on where you are!

Another really brilliant piece. For one of my jobs I trawl through food media and it's so rare I come across experiences I share a little of, like this. Us racialised folk are so, so often erased from the narratives of a system/industry/sector we uphold. Love what you're doing.
